“This Is Not A Recital” is a concert project by classical guitarist Marta Fonseca that questions the traditional rules of the classical music recital. Inspired by the conventions that usually define the format — from dress codes to the distance between performer and audience — the project rethinks these expectations and proposes a more informal and open concert experience, where spontaneity, interaction and a different relationship with the repertoire are welcomed.
Marta Fonseca is a Portuguese classical guitarist, composer and arranger with a varied and dynamic musical career. Winner of several international competitions, including the Audience Prize at the International Guitar Competition of Madrid (2022) and Second Prize at the Albania International Guitar Competition (2022), she performs repertoire ranging from baroque and classical to jazz and folk, both as a soloist and chamber musician.
She performs regularly across Europe and has appeared in cities such as Amsterdam, Lisbon, Madrid, Weimar, Basel and Trento, as well as at the Juilliard School in New York. Alongside her solo work, she is involved in projects such as Duo Arco da Velha, combining classical and Portuguese folk music, and Fado Meets Mozart, a quartet blending classical repertoire with elements of fado.
